Based in our Calgary office, reporting to the CEO and taking direction from the CFO, the successful candidate will be responsible for all areas of accounting including financial reporting, financial analysis and providing support to the production teams, in Calgary and Toronto offices, using integrated accounting/project management software.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the fully integrated project management and financial system.
  • Ensure that accounting records and reports are maintained on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions.
  • Complete client invoicing accurately and on time.
  • Monitor and ensure the timely collection of outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Prepare semi-monthly payroll using Ceridian Powerpay.
  • Maintain complete and accurate payroll records, including employee records and compliance with all Canada Revenue Agency and Alberta and Ontario employment standards requirements.
  • Manage employee group benefits program.
  • Prepare and submit monthly GST/HST returns on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Manage cash position and operating facility.
  • Complete the monthly general ledger to ensure accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year-end close.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Chief Executive Officer, Manager of Client Services and Account Managers regarding financial and project results and special reporting requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze workflow of financial and project records and controls to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Assist in development and implementation of enhanced processes.
  • Provide training for Project Management software to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Support Account Managers in the review and analysis of budgets versus actuals for on-going projects.
  • Support Chief Executive Officer or Senior Management with special projects, analysis of business results and opportunities, workflow process improvements and other ad hoc duties as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree with an emphasis in accounting.
  • Accounting designation or enrolled in program leading to accounting designation.
  • 3 to 5 years of financial reporting/project accounting/payroll experience.
  • Proficient with financial and project management software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Google Apps and Mac platforms.
  • Understanding of payroll processes and employment standards regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven strengths in developing and maintaining strong staff, and peer relationships.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Unquestionable attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines is required.
